Just another really great game. Presented by Sega.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for the Sega Megadrive/Genesis stands out from the rest due to it's length. The levels are longer than the two previous Sonic titles. Sonic teams back up with Tails after nearly destroying the Death Egg. Now the vessel has crash landed on Angel Island and Sonic has the Emeralds that Dr. Eggman needs to revive his invention. Shortly after Sonic lands on Angel Island, after traveling with Tails on his Tornadoe bi-plane, an echidna by the name of Knuckles pops out of no where and steals the the hedgehog's gems. Sonic and Tails have already gotten off on the wrong foot with this new guy. So now Sonic and Tails depart. Their goal is to re-collect the Chaos Emeralds, get even with Knuckles and stop Dr. Eggman's Death Egg for good this time.

The game's graphics are the best in the series so far, featuring vibrant colors and complex backgrounds. The characters themselves have never looked better. Sonic runs wiskfully through the jungles, carnivals, and mountains without a bunch of big frame-rate dips to inhibit your gameplay experience. The sound suffers nothing. The BGMs are even better this time around and still sound good even if you aren't playing the game. My favorite is the minor boss theme and the Super Sonic theme.

Super Sonic still exists in this game, but the special stages are even more challenging this time around. You will have plenty of opportunities to explore Special Stages, since all you have to do is simply jump into various large gold rings scattered throughout the acts.

This game features new power-ups to aid Sonic in his quest, including: a magnetic shield that attracts rings and offers Sonic a double-jump move in addition to protecting him from electrical shock. A fire shield that protects Sonic from fire-based weapons and attacks in addition to giving Sonic an in air fire burst dash that propels him forward in a blaze of fire. A bubble shield that allows Sonic to breath underwater and also allows him to bounce on the ground for enhanced jumping abilities. The more familiar power-ups still remain, like the power sneakers and 10-ring boxes.

The bosses have also been changed a bit, since now you fight two bosses per zone. One for each act. The first boss is a minor one that was created by Dr. Eggman to delay Sonic. The second boss is Eggman himself in one of his crazy inventions. The only thing I regret about this game is the fact that the bosses are simple and easy. The final boss wasn't even that big of a deal, atleast now that I'm more grown up.

All in all, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is another must have for any Gensesis owner. Try to pick up Sonic Mega Collection if you don't own a Genesis but have a Gamecube. Also, the Wii will soon have support for most of the old Sonic games too.
