I know, I'm reviewing a game which is almost 20 years old, however, it can't be helped, in terms of technology, graphics and performance, this game is amazing in all respects and became revolutionary.

The Mega Drive had a faster CPU speed then the Nintendo, this were able to produce high resolution graphics and faster gameplay. The Sega Sonic Team developed a game to handle the capabilities of the Mega Drive, this game was Sonic The Hedgehog.

The concept of the game is the blue hedgehog has to get travel across the stage, defeating enemies and collecting rings and getting to the goal to complete the level.

The controls of the game are simple, you can run and jump, however you can run at very fast speed though-out the level and at very good performance, a capability the Mega Drive was able to use.

There are also of power picks ups in the game, which are shield, invulnerability and super-speed. This enhances the gameplay and doesn't slow down the games performance, picking up 50 rings or more gives you an option to attempt the special stage to get one of the seven chaos emeralds in the game.

Sonic has to also defeat the boss Dr Robotkic (Dr Eggman, he's called now a days) after every 3 stages and recollect all the chaos emeralds in special stages of the game, which gives you the good ending after hours of gameplay. Each time he appearing on different level, offers a different challenge to defeat him, each time worth while.

Each level has a different theme as well as different mechanics, includes spring bumpers in the third level and water in the forth level, where the extra challenge is to collect air bubbles to stay alive.

The games resolution is great for it's time, which helps with the colourful and graphics and the music and sounds are formidable, including when collecting a ring within the game to the intro Sega screen.

There are a few slowdowns in the game, but only if there are a lot of objects on the screen, such as losing a lot of rings or falling platforms, which gives the performance of the game a hard work out, other then that the game works pretty great.
