.......killed a classic
Gameplay 3/10: There are only a few good things i can say about this game.
1. They added the spin dash
2. There is a save/continue mode
but that doesnt make up for what makes the game so bad. The fact is that everything that was fast..is now slow. The screens introducing the stage are even slow. When sonic hits a power up to fun faster only the music gets faster, and the controls are so loose that letting go of the D-pad will not make you stop causing you to hit enemies. You can get hurt on the sides of spikes, not the sharp edge THE SIDE! You can even get hurt while using the added spin-dash. There are so many problems but the biggest one of all is the slow framerate. Even if you have fun for the start, by the 2nd world fun time is over. Slow frame quicks in at the most frustrating times, by the time you get to world 4 you may be fed up with it. Not only is this killing a classic, buts its also wasted effort and a missed opportunity to make this game more superior as its on a more superior system.
Graphics 6/10: Now the game looks decent, but little flaws in between even makes its strongest section weak. Smashing walls in the oringinal used to make bricks fall and shatter like a real wall but here they just disappear. Original things in the game like wavy motions in the water are gone. They even screwed up the ending. Chaos emeralds used to bring life to green hill zone but now even the flowers are gone. It may look ok but no joyride for the rest of the game.
Sound 4/10: Even though music cant be exactly duplicated, most attempts for remades came close. This on the other hand sounds choppy and plain with music thats unsatisfying compared to the original. Even when the music is good, the sound effects are not. 70% of the sound effects now sound the exact same. Fighting bosses, detroying ring boxes and walls all sound the same. Air bubble sounds dont sound anything like they did in the past. Anything classic you wanted is now just a mockery in this.
It feels like sega didnt really try to celebrate sonics 15th birthday. Releasing this game for only profit. With 3 games rushed at once, they could at least save this one showing us what sonic truly is, but instead they killed a classic.
