A great RPG with cool characters/storyline and a very unique battle system as if Ogre Battle and Disgaea were combined.

Soul Nomad and the World Eaters is a strategy RPG developed by Nippon Ichi Software. The game begins with a man wandering through various locations as a narrator explains the history on the world this story takes place in. The world once was a place of endless war but it was unified by one amazing king who fought to unite the world and end the needless bloodshed, but man is mortal and he eventually died but before that he left the world a daughter. With his passing the peace he had established crumbled and the once again the world was plunged into famine and chaos and with it a great evil bent on destroying the world. The king's daughter now grown fought to protect this world and managed to seal away this evil in the process.

You live in this world 200 years after these events, a world seperated and divided with the remnants of the evil sealed away still present in the form of world eaters. 3 massive creatures capable of massive and devastating destruction far beyond the power fathomable of humans. Yet they lie dormant soon this time of calm will come to an end and the world eaters will once again spread havoc and terror through the land without remorse. In a secret village you live without knowledge of your past or much of the outside world you finally become old enough to fight and your village leader bestows you with a strange sword. This is no ordinary sword, it contains the great evil named "Gig" that once wished to destroy the world and now that evil is now living within you so you must use your new found power to fight the world eaters without being consumed by Gig now your adventure begins.

Soul Nomad has a very interesting storyline full of surprises and plot twists that will keep you entertained. You play as the usual protagonist hero, although in this title you can play as either a male or female hero. I have not yet had time to try the female aspect but the fact that you can choose must have an interesting effect on the game and is quite cool and I hope to try it out at some point to see for myself what it all changes. With a good all around story and alot of interesting and unique characters that you will grow to love I think Soul Nomad had great potential and possibilities although unfortunately I think it fell short of greatness and instead is just a good game.

The graphics are that of most Nippon Ichi titles, a very interesting anime style. They are quite known now for this artistic style that they choose to design the games the develop in many times I have seen people make fun of the "low-tech" graphics for now taking the system to its full potential. Yet there are other who prefer the games in this style and think that it is actually a very good decision to keep the games the make this way. With lots of cool attack animations, tons of cool sprites, and art backgrounds used sometimes during talking the game has a nice feel to it.

Soul Nomad is a strategy RPG but it has a very unique battle system. You have a main team which you can set up various formations and part combinations along with different rooms that give the team different abilities. Along with your main team that is lead by your main character you can set up many various other teams that you can summon while in battle. When you attack a enemy team dependent on your formation your units will all auto-attack the enemy units and afterwards dependent on formation they will counter-attack afterwards. This auto battle system reminds me somewhat of Ogre Battle meets Disgaea although I admit it lacks the great amazing battle system many games have had and are known for a great unique combat system is always a good thing and a great change of pace.

Musically the game is average, it doesn't have some of the great songs other similar games sometimes have but overall the music was very acceptable. The sounds and cool effects were great and the voice acting was fantastic one of the best that I have seen in games as of late it really makes the characters come alive and give them more personality. Overall I would say Soul Nomad and the World Eaters is a very good game that had a good storyline and a very interesting combat system, Although it isn't perfect it was good I would rate it a 8.6 out of 10. I would suggest that any Nippon Ichi fan should definatly get this game and play it and anyone else to check it out and try it see if you will like it I wouldn't be surprised if you did.

This review will show up as a 8.5 due to Gamespot unfortunately not allowing a 8.6 to be selected.
