Soul Callibur 2 is one of those games that I've seen at the game store every time I go but never picked it up because I didn't care to spend that much money on a fighting game. Personally, I like fighting games but I tire of them easily so I didn't want to put down $50 dollars for it. But, now Soul Callibur 2 joined Xbox's Platinum Collection. So for just $20 dollars I couldn't refuse. The first thing that I noticed about the game was how smooth it is. The animation between fighting stances and different fighting moves is so fluid that you can't tell where the animation begins or ends. The motion capture for each fighter is terrific. From the simplest of moves to the more complex combos, their fighting style is strong, recognizable and distinct from each other. The graphics look great. The models have a good, smooth quality to them unlike some games where they tend to look blocky. The levels themselves are good but it's the creativeness of the levels of the single player mode that really take the cake. For example, when playing weapon master there will be levels where the wind is strong and capable of pushing you over the edge or there are levels that the platform where you stand is covered with ice so both you and your enemy are fighting while sliding. Some levels have a ring of fire on the edge while other have sinking sand in the middle. It's really great all of the ideas that they developing team was able to include in this game. They give it a nice touch of variety and complexity one is not accustomed to in fighting games. I do wish that the environment was more interactive for example there could be things one could break if you swing and you miss. But the fact is that it's really not necessary for the game to be enjoyable. I'm really a big fan of this game and like I said, for $20 bucks it can't be beat. So, go out and get it today. You won’t regret it.
