SOUL CALIBUR 3

User Rating: 8.8 | SoulCalibur III PS2
The Soul Calibur series had always been lets say, unknown territory to me. I recently got Soul Blade for the playstation 1 a week ago simply because it was so cheap and i needed a game that i could enjoy without being subjected to cute little animals on my fiances playstation. After playing the first i was instantly hooked i remembered seeing good reviews for it but never really giving it more attention than that, lets just say when my mates came round to the wifes we could do more than listen to her and her flatmates going on about clothes and new ways to make themselves look 5 years younger.

More on the point after playing Soul Blade i became hooked on the characters and the general feel of combat in the game, i decided it was time to move on to bigger and better things, namely the Soul Calibur games. I played the second a few at my mates house they were obsessed but i wanted more i took the initiative of thinking the newest would probably be the best and from expiriencing the others i have to say it really is.

The game comes with the usual, a 8 battle arcade style mode, vs mode, team battle mode and the tales of souls mode (story mode). I have to say the tales of souls mode is a bit short lived but enjoyable all the same. A new mode was introduced for this game, this mode being 'Chronicles of the Sword'. This new mode to me is a bit confusing and i was certain on what i was actually doing, the difficulty and confusion put me off the rpg style of this mode so its safe to say i won't be going back to it any time soon.

Another welcome addition is 3 new characters from the word go and a character creation option which is suprisingly fun to play about with, with a large selection (especially for a female character) of options and more that can be unlocked, you can even change the main costumes for the games characters so they are customized to your own perceptions of them which is pretty sweet.

All in all Soul Calibur 3 is probably the most enjoyable beat em up i have played in some time. Of course in my opinion its no street fighter beater (i love capcom), especially with the alpha anthology no availablefor the PS2 aswell but i would definately recommend this title to anybody who wants a new beat em up expirience i mean what other game lets you perform S&M style moves on your opponents with a sword that doubles as a big chain hehe. much love.
