It tried. It really did. And no matter how much you'll want to like this game, you won't be able to.

I really really looked forward to playing this game. I love Soul Caliber, the graphics are always amazing, the characters so well rendered and their sense of strength is exhilarating to fight with. And when I first popped this game in, and I got the hang of the controls I was hopeful. It was neat to not press buttons to make my character fight. It was so nice to swing the Wii remote to the right to slice sideways and chop down with the remote to slice down the middle. That part was a thrill to learn. And then I realized it was one of those games where you are forced to follow a pre-ordained path and kill everything in your way before you can move on. Well, Im used to one on one fighting, and was hopeful that there might be some exploring in this game, but no, and that's ok. So I still tried to be patient. But in the end all this game ended up being was a kill-em-all that wears you out and makes you wish they'd released the same fighting game you're used to, the one on one, character select, FIGHT game. So I give it points for trying to expand itself into new territory, and I sincerely wanted to like it, and maybe they can improve on the idea and maybe make missions and worlds like Zelda where you can explore, and then maybe it would be better. I give it points for trying. But it just didn't work.
