User Rating: 7.3 | Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy PS2
This is a good game, but a few odd flaws make it difficult (thought not impossible) to really enjoy. The graphics are the true shining point in Sphynx and The Cursed Mummy. The colors are bright and the lighting effects are amazing. The character animations are fluid and really work well...even down to the little mannerisms they exhbit. The game story is interesting and the humor in the game is reasonably well done. There's a decent amount of variety in the levels, especially with the two main characters in the game being so very different. The levels using Sphynx are very action oriented, with some good puzzles. The Mummy's levels are completely about stealth and puzzle solving, as he has no fighting ability whatsoever. The controls are extremely responsive...possibly a little too responsive as a minor twitch has sent the Mummy plummeting into more pits than I care to admit to. The games music and sound effects are good. The score especially puts me into the "Egyptian" mood, though it is a little too similar to the score in Pharoah if you really listen to it. The only real problem with the game is the lack of any voice acting whatsoever. It's really a shame that the game has these incredible, cartoonlike graphics but doesn't give us any voices at all. It's especially annoying since we have to miss the animation to read the dialogue.
