A good game that suffers from lack of unlockables and lack of gameplay.
The game is nice, that is certain, but it doesn't have the same magic as it's predecessor. While it is nice to not be held back by levels the game doesn't have enough variety to be considered an improvement.
The level design ... is Manhattan basically. You can go out to the Statue of Liberty but there isn't a real reason to do that. Stores are all over and so are places to go into. But the areas you can go inside are uninspired and you have nothing to do in them.
The combat has gone downhill. The change from a punch and kick buttons to a combat button wasn't right. It eliminated a whole mess of gameplay that was excellent in the predecessor. Most of combat is dodging and attacking afterwards. And the enemies can somehow dodge your webs! It is like they have spidey sense as well! The boss fights are uninspired and horrible. They even made a mockery of Mysterio during his boss fight.
Some levels are pretty fun. Dodging the energy of the fusion machine in Doc Ock's lab was a nice level. And the obstical course level was very, very fun to play. Outside of the inside levels are pathetic. The city is just a 3D city with hardly anything to do.
The random crimes you can do are very dull and get repetative after just a few hours of gameplay. And if you choose not to complete the citizen requested ones then you lose spendable Hero points. Hero Points are what you spend to buy upgrades.
The sound stinks! The sounds of the city are worse then that of the previous game and the music is not worth listening to. The music is practically non-existant most of the time and when it is there it is nothing. The music is horrible. Sound effects are great though. Webbing and shots.
The lack of unlockables makes the game have HORRIBLE replay value. But swinging through the city saves that section. The swinging is enough to make you turn it on and start playing.
Overall the game is a missed opportunity. Hopefully the next console installment will fix this.
