Gameplay: 9

Like what I wrote down in the "Pros and cons" section of this review, you actually feel like you're swinging across the rooftops of New york city, when you are not on top of skyscrapers running for your life, you wil be inside the Daily Bugle or in Warehouse 65 or inside the sewers. (Ew!) The thrill of playing as Spider-man punching, kicking and firing different forms of webs at your foes just never really seems to get old. The gameplay is one of the main reasons why this is arguably the best Spider-man video-game produced up to this present day, it could quite possibly the best superhero video-game ever produced as well. The only thing that is stopping the gameplay from getting a "perfect 10" is that the game has a few minor bugs; one of the most noticeable bugs (and probably the most annoying bug as well) is that when you zip-line to the ceiling, the control scheme for the directional buttons is breifly ultered so you go in the reverse direction that you want to go, this also happens when you climb up onto another part of a wall or a ceiling as well so when you crawl onto a different level of height you will do a 180 degree turn backwards to the level of height you were on about a second ago.

Sound: 10

The game isn't far off a masterpiece when it comes to sound, when you listen to the symbiotes scream in agony when you throw radioactive waste at their heads, to when you here one of the Webheads classic one-liners when you are busy beating the snot out of your opponents; the music and sound effects just never fail to impress.

Plot: 9

The plotline is absolutely excellent, it just amazes me how the developers managed to successfully cram so many of Spidey's friends, foes and annoyances into the story modes breif runtime without making it seem like they were forced in in the first place. The games runtime is just slightly less than four hours during your first playthrough. (The game can be beaten in less than two hours after you've beaten the game at least once.)

Graphics: 8

All and all, these are actually some rather good graphics for the Playstation one, although it would definitely be an improvement if the characters hands weren't almost always just waving fists, and you could actually see their fingers moving around. (This was done in the sequel, Spider-man 2: Enter Electro) The graphics are probably at their best during the cinematics, they'll just make you wish there were more of them, even if there already is quite a lot of them in comparison to most games.

Overall: 9/10 - EDITOR'S CHOICE AWARD -

This game is definite must for anyone who is even a mild fan of the comic books or the movie trilogy. (quadrilogy in another one-and-a-half years) In fact, the games made-for-playstation sequel from Vicarious visions, movie tie-in games, Ultimate alliances games and other games that involve the webhead don't even come close to even tieing up with the amount of fun and excitement this game is able to provide. Although the story mode is rather short, but there are just some many bonus comic books, costumes and characters to unlock that it expands the games lasting value to nearly 100 hours. Long time fans of the comic books released in 1964 will not be disappointed.
