An excellent game with some troubling flaws.
Story:
The story behind the game is the typical comic book one, but that is most certainly no bad thing. The story starts off with Peter Parker attending a scientific demonstration by the now reformed Dr. Otto Octavius (Doc Ock to you and me). All of a sudden, Spider-Man appears on stage and steals Octavius' device. Except that this Spider-Man is definitely not Peter, because he is still in the crowd trying to slip away to confront the impostor. The impostor gets away, leaving everyone to believe that Spider-Man stole that piece of equipment. Now, Spider-Man must evade capture by the Police Force and try to figure out who would want to frame him. From then on, it is time to take to the skies and find the impostor.
Controls:
Te controls are very well done for this game, I must say. Spider-Man is controlled using the thumb stick while the A, B, X and Y buttons are used to punch, kick, web, etc. You get the picture. The only thing wrong here is that the camera can mess up while fighting enemies, making it hard to hit them. But, besides that, everything else is well done.
Sound:
The voiceover for Spider-Man is done by Rino Romano who voiced Spider-man in the ill-fated series Spider-man Unlimited. He does a great job. The rest of the voiceovers are not done by any of the other actors from either animated series, to my knowledge, but even so they all do a fantastic job. Except that Doc Ock still has that stupid European accent that we all know he should not have.
Graphics:
This game is essentially a port of the Playstation game and while the graphics look much better than the Playstation version, there are times when you are shown that the game was rushed. An example of this would be that at one point, Spider-Man does not have the webs all over his suit. To me, this shows that the game was put together in a rather sloppy way.
Overall:
This is a solid title that has a lot of minor flaws but still proves to be great. The game feels that it is lifted straight from a comic book and gives you the real feeling of being Spider-Man. There are plenty of extras to be unlocked, so that should no doubt keep you coming back for more. If you are a fan, buy it now. If you are not a fan of Spider-Man, rent and then hopefully buy.
