Spiderman on the PS1 was perhaps the best in the series with a cast of great villains.
STORY
The story begins at a Science Expo hosted by Otto Octavious, who is showing off a Energy Converter. Peter Parker is in the audience reporting for the Daily Bugle when suddenly an Impostor Spider-man bursts in and steals the Converter, takes down a few cops and swings away. Now the Webhead is New York's most wanted! Soon after a mysterious fog envelopes The City and its once again up to Spidey to save the day!
GAMEPLAY
Spider-man is played as third-person action adventure. The levels were all more or less linear but were ingenious. Some levels had you swinging across roof tops and beating up baddies while others had you saving hostages in buildings. The most memorable level by far has to be the train level which was one of the most action-packed, with lizard-men fighting you on a moving subway train. The combat was quite solid with a varied range of attacks from punching to webbing. The game had a massive cast of villains, including Scorpion, Venom and Rhino, to name a few. The boss battles were tough as they were entertaining. There were also hidden comic books to collect in each level and secret costumes to unlock once you had beaten the game in a certain difficulty.
GRAPHICS
For the PlayStation, the graphics were good. Cinematic graphics were slightly better than the gameplay ones but in all fairness they were nothing to write home about. What really mattered was the great gameplay.
SUMMARY
Spider-man was a great game, with great innovation. It did what the newer games have failed to do, give a players an unforgettable experience.
