Did Spiderman's new game shine??

User Rating: 7 | Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions PS3
Let me start off by saying that Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions did nowhere as close to the spiderman games what Arkham Asylum did to the Batman games. I was going into this game, expecting a dark and a mature take on a spiderman game like Arkham Asylum was. It didn't do that. In fact, at times, the game felt like it was for little kids, which is dissapointing. Just make it E-rated already if you target it at the kids. Anyways, let's start the review for Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions.

PROS:
There were a couple of pros to the game, including the different level variety of the four spidermen. First, you got Noir, which is a black-and-white 1900's era which is pretty cool and it also involves stealth. Second, there's Spiderman 2099 which is a futuristic take on the dimensions which turns out pretty cool. Then, there's Ultimate and Amazing Spiderman which i couldn't tell the difference between the dimensions aside from the cartoony feel of the Amazing Spiderman one. There were also a wide variety of boss fights. Each boss required a different kind of strategy to them and most of the badass Spiderman villians were in this one, including Carnage and Vulture. There's also this thing called Web of Destiny or whatever. What it is is that you can earn rewards throughout each level by collecting enough spider emblems or taking down enough baddies, etc. You would get an award for it and you would use those awards to upgrade your character and his different combo moves, which is pretty cool. They, also, put in character bios of the villians and different spidermen in the main menu and they also put in concept art which i kept on looking on which one i unlocked after every level. There were also a lot of problems which brings us to the....

CONS:
Aside from all that webby shweeby or whatever, there's also the downside of the game. A lot of the time the levels got really really repetitive. Not to spoil too much, but i might spoil a little in this review since it's impossible to not, writing the review. You have to fight mostly every boss twice or three times which is really annoying. Every level, you have to rescue a person and every level, you have to defend a person, and then a boss fight. It's just mostly all of the levels have the same level structure, which is not cool. There were a couple of glitches that i spotted that got on my nerves, since it cost me health. Then, there's the not-dark take on the game. For me, it's more of a family-friendly game. There's no blood, no vulgar language, no dark feeling to it, no maturity, so why wouldn't it be a kid-friendly game, especially if it's SPIDERMAN, for god's sake! The only reason i wanted to play this game is because i thought it was going to be a lot like Arkham Asylum was, but i guess i thought wrong. I just want to tell you right now if you loved Arkham Asylum, and you're expecting the same thing out of this one, don't play or get it. It's not, period.

THE VERDICT:
Spiderman: SD wasn't the game i thought it set out to be. There are more flaws to it than pros. So, i guess that's all i have to really say about it. After this, i don't really think i'm in the mood to play another Spiderman game if it's coming out in the next two years. So, that's that.
