Web of Shadows is an epic adventure that deconstructs Spidey and his universe and sets him back on the quality train.

Spider-Man Web of Shadows is the first non-movie game in the Spidey franchise since Ultimate Spider-Man, and it brings with it a mind-blowing combat system and a fantastic original story. After a confrontation with Venom, Spider-Man discovers he has re-obtained his symbiote suit, and Mary Jane is hosptilized. After teaming with fellow heroes like Luke Cage and Moon Knight, Spidey begins to discover an entire city-wide invasion is bieng enacted by Venom and his Symbiote-Infectees, forcing SHIELD to step in and quarentine all of New York.

My only real complaint here is the web-swinging feels less like it was designed for exploration, and more like a method of getting from fight to fight. Don't get me wrong, slinging around New York is still a blast, it's just not as detaield or well-polished as Spider-Man 3 or the fighting system of WoS.

One of my favorite things about Spidey's quest is how well it ties in with the rest of the Marvel Universe. Luke Cage, Moon Knight, Wolverine, and SHIELD all make commanding appearences, and the Avengers, Daredevil, the Secret Wars, Iron Man, Fantastic Four and Roxxon are all mentioned. Web of Shadows also boasts and incredible combat system. Switching costumes between regular and symbiote is seamless, and can be done mid-combo. Both costumes have huge combat-trees, with multiple attacks and abillities that utilize the games ground, air, and wall-based combat systems. This is one of the most visualy-impressive Spider-Man games ever, with Spidey leaping around, unleashing insane web-based attacks and massive combos. The Boss battles are also pretty great, between regular and symbiote heroes and villans, my favorite bieng the Symbiote Wolverine, and the moral choices involved.

In the end, this is Spider-Man's best game yet, and with 4 diffrent endings, lots of collectables, and sheer fun obtained from exploration makes it a rewarding ride, as well as fun.
