This proves that some t.v. based games can be good.
Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom is a very rare game in the sense that there are about a total of zero good games based on a t.v. show. It is another what you would call a "Generic 3D Platformer" And yeah its generic, but who cares? its spongebob in a good game! A first, and also probably a last.
Pros.
- Graphics are better than the spongebob games I've seen on current gen consoles
- Addictive kid-friendly fun
- 3 playable characters give the game some much needed breathing room, and the nice thing is that they all play differently
- Nice puzzles that aren't stolen from other games
- Copies Mario games in progression terms, but stays different enough to feel like a new game
Cons.
- Can get punishingly hard at times
- Noticeable graphical glitches
- Game seems to drag on a little too long
Story: 7/10
You need to stop plankton from taking over bikini bottom, let alone, the world. Bland, but it works.
Sound: 9/10
Sound design is surprisingly good, sound effects are also very good
Graphics: 8/10
In PS2 terms, the graphics are very good. I've played Spongebob games for the Wii, and this beats it by a mile.
Difficulty: 4/10
Weakest point of the game, uneven difficulty can lead to frustration and will make you not want to progress further.
Controls: 9/10
You rarely have a problem with the controls, but when you do it will get on your nerves, that won't happen often though.
Presentation: 7/10
Menus are bland but good. The feel of the game does make it feel like a spongebob game though
Gameplay: 8/10
Not bad, everything runs smoothly, good camera, everything is solid.
"Fun" Factor: 9/10
Like spongebob? You will love this game.
Should I get it?
