Squarepants delivers a fresh, fun platformer to keep platform veterens going for awhile.
battle for Bikini Bottom starts off with a wave of robots attacking our heroe's little town bikini bottom , and for some reason Spongebob and his pals are the only ones who can save the day.
The story is ok , a couple of good gags , but most of it feels like a rather rushed , watered-down version of the excellent Tv show. but the gameplay makes up for it , with some fresh and entertaining ways of getting through the game.
the controls are easy to get used to , with normal jump, movement and attack buttons , after you start unlocking extra moves the controls do get a bit overwhelming , witch drives home the fact that this game is not for kids.
The interesting moves include rolling around as a ball , swining a laso for a helicopter , throwing Fruit , Underweear Bungie jumping and Bubble torpeddos with the respected Character..... thats right there are 3 heroes that interchange mid level when you wish , or need them .
The attacking is very basic with either Belly-bumps , karate kicks or swatting.The robots witch are the enemy range from easy defeats to the Tatar sauce weilding hard robots. The gameplay for awhile just involves constant swating away foes , until later when you have to also dodge flying tatar sauce and destroy the robot making machines. this can come boring after awhile but luckily the over modes of travel and attacking mix it up a bit.
As in almost evry platform game you need to collect things , but with Bikini Bottom , this is mixed up a bit with different things you need to collect to unlock "keys" to progress.
the character models look good for a 2d conversion into 3d and the animation is smoothe.
The levels are well thought out and beautiful in there own right . Almost every environment shown in the TV show is on offer as a level in the game.
You can also enteract with many of the Shows characters who give you tips and also just "funny" banter.
The sound is superb with SFX and music straight from the show , some Nortical music for when your looking around and some hard rocking surfer music for when your Toungeboarding.
yes my favourite move to do in this game is Toungeboarding , where you go down slides and tubes while riding your tongue( spongebob) or on your belly (patrick) or a neet little board ( sandy).
The difficult level prevented me from progressing ( naturaly) so i have no idea how long it will take to get through the story. If you keep at the missions even when you fail over and over , BIkini Bottom will give you hours of Play. But without any other modes rather than the story the value of the game starts to be questioned.
Overall Spongebob Battle for BIKINI bottom is a great little platformer that Veterens and Casuals will enhoy , even if they do get stuck multiple times.
