Tries to retain the charm of it's bigger brother, but unfortunately falls flat in the end. (Actual: 6.75)
The sounds in the game are ok. They are cute and silly but quite repetitive in the end. The music on the other hand is usually fitting and sounds good.
The game itself is quite interesting at first. You start off with a simple creature that is meant to protect a friend, and then that friend gets kidnapped and you go on an adventure to rescue him. It was smart to make this game into an actual adventure, rather than the RTS-type game that the PC version is. It makes this game unique and fun. There are a few problems that plague this game though, that prevent it from being the fantastic game it should have been. First of all, though there are quite a few parts for you to play with, oftentimes during the actual adventure you are forced to use certain parts because of the abilities they give you, and you aren't really given freedom to create something you like merely on looks. Granted you can do that later for fun, but it would be cool if you could make something cool looking and instead give it abilities as a seperate creation aspect.
The other problem is that though the missions are actually quite varied as you go through the game, for some reason it gets boring after about the first 1/3 of the game. I think part of it has to do with the direction the story takes. I can't really spoil much here though.
The controls are another complaint of mine. Though they don't necessarily do it wrong, there is something missing about it. Especially when using the touch screen to move. It feels a little off sometimes. It'll get the job done though.
The main draw for this game though is it's creation aspect. The adventure has it's moments of fun but as a whole is lacking. Being able to go online and share your creations and download other people's creations is pretty cool too. If you have access to a PC that can play Spore, I'd suggest that over this any day, though if you are really interested then you should rent this first (that's what I did, and I'm glad I rented it instead of bought it). If you don't have access to the PC version, and the concept of Spore fascinates you, then this may satisfy you. I wouldn't pay the full price for this though. Enjoy.
