Of course this is not the best in series, but GS rating and users’ comments are too bad against it!
Probably most players were disappointed because of the expectations about this game, it’s the 4th episode of the series but the first one for PS2 and 128-bit consoles, and sincerely there are many lacks in it.
An obnoxious feature are long times to load levels; music and poor background audio are another weak point of the game.
And frame rate sometimes creates nuisances…I can’t deny there are programming bugs…
But graphics are not so awful as someone claims: they are simple and not very detailed, but relaxing and colourful.
Gameplay is basically the usual of the previous episodes, Spyro must collect gems to pay the Rich and so to go on, he can plan down, and charge the enemies with its horny head.
Seeking and setting dragonflies free is the goal of the game, and doing this Spyro visits many and different worlds, and it’s pleasant, because they are different each other and everything looks to be a fairy tale for kids. As new skills Spyro is able to perform the electric and freezing breathe (the bubble attack is useful just to catch dragonflies).
For every stage there are some mini-games to complete and to be rewarded with a new dragonfly.
Final fight against the boss (as you can easily guess, it’s Ripto) is quite easy.
Certainly, something more could have been done, but I repeat a so low average score is not fair.
