SSX 3 is easily one of the greatest extreme sports games from the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube era.

SSX has established itself as the most critically acclaimed snowboarding series of all-time, and it definately deserves all of its praise. SSX 3 takes what was so good in SSX Tricky and improves upon it in almost every way. The control and feel of your character and his/her board is much more smooth and loose. Tricks are the big focus in SSX 3. Executing them is much more easier than in SSX Tricky. This is nice for a while, but in SSX Tricky the challenge of executing your tricks are a little more rewarding and satisfying. There are three peaks on SSX 3 on one big mountain that is there for the conquering. Each peak has 2-3 races, slope style challenges, and super pipe challenges. Once you complete all the races on peak 1 you will be able to race down peak 2, and once you complete all the races on peak 2, you can race down peak 3. The final challenge of each peak is starting at the very top of a peak and trying to get to the very bottom of the peak before the given time expires. When you reach peak 2 and take on this challenge you will be given 15 minutes to get to the very bottom of peak 1. And when you take on this challenge at peak 3 you will have 30 minutes to race down the entire mountain before time expires. Completing challenges will earn you clothes, new gear, new boards, and cash for you to buy things such as character attributes which makes your character stronger. Two player mode is also a blast. It probably would have been better had the screen been split horizontally instead of veritcally in multiplayer mode, but you'll get used to it. The graphics in SSX 3 are really superb. The snow is extremely smooth, the mountain and the surrounding environment has a breath taking look, and the snowfall is really surreal. Something that everyone loves about this game is the soundtrack. As a music whore I am very picky when it comes to music. It would have been nice to use the Xbox's capabilities to put your own customizable soundtrack in the game. Still, the game has a better soundtrack than what most games have, and everything else soundwise is good quality.

SSX will take you a long time to complete. It may only have 1 mountain and three peaks, but this is one big mountain and plenty of other challenges and unlockable to fumble with will keep you busy for a long time.
