With the inclusion of skis, the SSX series takes a turn for the better.

User Rating: 8.8 | SSX On Tour PS2
EA has been making SSX games since the birth of the PS2 way back in the early 2000's. While the games up till this installment have been good, the inclusion of skis and changing the way you throw tricks, really gives the SSX series a turn towards the better. I have to admit that with the addition of the skis, it really tugged me into the series, as skis are absent from any good video games. Well finally with SSX On Tour, they have struck gold.

The visuals in SSX On Tour are something to marvel at, while not perfect , the game's weather effects, tricks and character models look quite good. There hasn't been a game with snow effects as pretty as SSX On Tour. When you can see the snow coming off the back of the skis as you make make your turns down the mountain, a smile of pure joy over comes your face and you will giggle with glee, like a 3 year old with a lollipop. Also the sense of speed in this installment of the series is unlike anything in any ski/snowboard game. It almost reminds me of something you are likely to see in Criterion's Burnout series.

The sound in SSX On Tour are good. While I'am not a big fan of the in game music, it definely helps put you in the mood, and will move you down the hill. This is the only place in which I could see having the X-Box version as an advantage, as you would be able to add your own soundtrack to the game. Other than that, all the sounds in place are perfect, and work great.

If you are looking for a great snowboard/ski game, and I was, then this is your only option. While the game is not necessarly realistic, it sure is a lot of fun, and there is truly nothing else like it.
