SSX: On Tour delievers a fun snowboarding experience while staying in reality.
Unlike SSX 3's tour mode the new game has players making their own rider instead of playing as an established character. The goal of the Tour mode is to compete in races and earn cash for upgrades and get hype which raises your standing on the list, the more hype the more you progress. The various types of matches include shred events which are skilled based, your slopestyle which are trick events, and the standard races. The tracks now feature people skiing or boarding along and this makes the enviorments feel more full. The create a player mode in the game is somewhat lacking compared to other titles due to its lack of options. Also the hair textures look a bit bland. Unlike the last title in which you could freely ride the mountain and choose what event you wanted to do, this time you choose each event on a map and after completion you are taken back to the menu. This slows things down a little bit and the game doesn't have the same pacing as the previous one. The game still lets you ride from top to bottom and like the last title that is a ton of fun.
The controls in On Tour remains mostly the same except that uber tricks are now pulled off by moving the right analog stick in different directions while holding down the shoulder buttons. This new layout makes the tricks easier to pull off. The only downside to the new trick system is that everytime you pull off a trick the camera zooms in and slows down and sometimes the enviorment is obstructed and this makes landing a bit hard.
The audio in On Tour excels by featuring bands like Iron Maiden, Dio, Lcd Soundsystem, and the Hives to name a few. As you gain more speed the wind whips past in a similar sound and effect like the Burnout series. The sounds of the other people on the track add to the feeling that you're actually on a mountain.
SSX: On Tour retains the fun style and gameplay of previous titles despite getting rid of aspects that the titles are known for. The new gameplay modes may not be as good as they should be but SSX is still a fun trip down the mountain.
