not the best instalment of the series...

User Rating: 7.8 | SSX On Tour PS2
As a long time fan of the SSX series, I am very disappointed with this entry, as far as being an SSX game. It lacks the characteristic SSX style. The character you make lacks anything to make you associate with them--there is no commentary as you perform tricks or crash, no personalized tricks, and the character models are generally bland. The levels are a let down as well. The emphasis on speed (though it is nice) prevents you from "learning" each course, making them all feel the same, and a bit generic. Many of the levels have a goal, such as "Ride 250 feet of rail"--you can probably achieve this in 30 seconds, causing the level to end immediately, so you didn't get to see any further down the course. I have yet to find a free ride option, which was one of my favorite parts of the previous games. Most tricks can't be performed until you "buy" them--and you don't win money from events, only collectibles. Where SSX3 was streamlined, SSX On Tour aims to compartmentalize every little section, slowing things down, and making them feel disparate.
