It's a game that you will spend a few hours playing, dying, and not figuring out why it's awesome.

While there isn't much innovation as far as some things, the sheer number of places to go, things to get, and pure randomness makes it fun to play. You can fight on land in some places, which is a refreshing change, but for the most part it is in your fighter. One of the things that makes it so playable is that there are almost always more paths to choose. Go left, fly to metro-asteroid zone B. Do some strange and unspecified task, fly to planet Aarfashove. (not that those are the real names) It is not easy, you will definitely die a lot, but if you just try it is highly likely you will reach the end... and then restart and try to get to do it differently.
The story is quite solid, and others wrote about it in their reviews so I won't discuss it. The boss fights are hard, some harder than others, but they are fun to play even when you die. Sure, you might get really frustrated (I do), but then you walk away, and suddenly realize that you feel empty inside for not beating it. Then you pick up the controller, and (hopefully) beat it.
