Frustrating but has a few fun elements once you get past the training and save your game

User Rating: 6.5 | Star Trek: Encounters PS2
Star Trek: Encounters is one game that for once I will say is extremely frustrating. Upon placing the game into my PS2 I was impressed that all of the shows were involved. I could play them out just like the shows. Yet menial task and a frustrating almost impossible training to complete for a casual gamer. If you don't like Star Trek this game is not going to be the best for you. However for fans this game was well thought out except for the awful control scheme. In the middle of play my hands would cramping up after holding down or pressing the same button over and over and then dying after realizing I had pressed up twice instead of once. The other unusual setup of this game is the lack of a proper save game feature. You can only save your game once every objective in "chapter" is complete, rather than playing a small portion and saving from there.

I was impressed with the multiplayer and VS. mode. It game me the opportunity to play my favorite ships against those of my favorite enemies. I recommend this game to those who love the Star Trek genre but to the casual gamer be patient it will take at least 24 times to get through the training
