SFC for the handheld with the necessary modifications; which were executed very well.
Gameplay – Strong pick up and play features. You have a skirmish mode and two campaign modes. During both the campaign and skirmish you have options to modify the ships handling and other tactical qualities. This is a strategy game. One must pick their battles and once engaged one must maneuver thoughtfully and tactfully in order to exploit their adversaries weakness while utilizing one’s strengths; again, much like SFC. You don’t have the micromanaging qualities as experienced in SFC. In place of many SFC functions you’ll have the option of overcharging weapons, directing EP to “all” shields, and engaging in high energy maneuvers. All of these “extra” functions draw on a limited, slowly self replenishing supply of emergency power; which can be upgraded after mission completion based on performance.
Graphics – Very well done, what you would expect from a PSP handheld.
Sound – Good, better with earphones which is what we’ve come to expect from the PSP.
Value – I ranked it an eight. This game is a 10 for Star Trek fans, an 8 for casual fans and tactical ship fighting lovers, and a 5 (perhaps lower) for all those who don’t pay attention to Star Trek.
Tilt – this is a 9 for myself. The aforementioned assessment pretty much highlights how I feel and the games true value.
Conclusion – Great game. Need to be patient in battle; can’t go around shooting things up or you’ll have your ass handed to ya. Need to understand your ships strengths and your opponent’s weakness in order to be successful and have fun. Think before you fight and be patient in combat. If this is done you will enjoy this game.
