Tactical Assault captures the gameplay that says "Star Trek", but feels more like a misplaced Starfleet Comand

User Rating: 8.8 | Star Trek: Tactical Assault PSP
Throughout the attempts to try to make decent Star Trek games; many have failed, and some has failed even harder. With Bethesda softworks recent attempt to make 3 great star trek games (Encounters, Tactical Assault, and Legacy) 2 have been released and one is on the way. Encounters failed miserably, with its terrible gameplay and just dumb campaign. The second game however, is great. If you have ever heard of or played Starfleet Command you will feel right at home with this game. It functions much like SFC, with the shield facings, and the increasing or decreasing impulse power to move. T he game has 3 modes of play, Campaign, Multiplayer, and Skirmish. The campaign is fairly long, timing in at about 10-12 hours for all 31 missions between the Federation and Klingon campaigns. For the most part the missions are a lot more fun than you might think, and you could see a captain of a ship in the future given similar orders. There is only occasional missions that seem pointless, and easy, so for the most part the campaign is great. Multiplayer is really lacking here. I enjoy the occasional star trek episode, but I bought this game because I like to blow other ships up using star trek weapons. Unless you have a friend who has a PSP owns ST:TA and lives nearby multiplayer is pointless. Infrastructure mode would be an excellent way to make this game very successful, because huge online battles against 20 people would just downright be awesome. Unfortunately this game does not have it. Skirmish mode enables you to either pick a difficulty, a ship and let the game do the rest, or pick a custom layout. 4 ships can be played at once in ST:TA 1 you control and up to 3 computer controlled opponents or allies. The graphics of the game are fairly decent, not superb, but much better than the DS version. If you own Encounters you will know that Tactical Assault has the same musical score. The new music for the games is great, and it fits the feel of the game nicely. Overall Tactical Assault is a great game, it could be a superb game if it had better multiplayer, and a longer campaign. This game is for anyone who likes Star Trek or just likes destroying an opponent using tactical maneuvers.
