Despite what you may think, this game has nothing to do with hotdogs. What it does have something to do with, is being a priceline negotiator. That's because you assume the role of Captain James T. Kirk, the character who made William Shatner ultra famous. The Kobayashi Alternative was a Star Trek based text adventure, released in the mid 1980's. The player commands the actions of the Enterprise crew, as well as the Enterprise ship itself. The game was expansive and ambitious, but also very buggy. Kobayashi Maru is the name of a spaceship in a training exercise in the Star Trek fictional universe. In the exercise, the "Kobayashi Maru" is the precipitating element in a simulated no-win scenario. The ship's name is occasionally used among Star Trek fans or those familiar to describe such situations. Kobayashi, meaning "small forest", is the 9th most common Japanese surname.
