Star Wars Action at it's Finest

User Rating: 9 | Star Wars: Battlefront PS2
The words Star Wars conjure up different thoughts and images in people's minds. Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, these are the some of the biggest pieces of the lore. Great centerpieces for the films, but as far as video games go they have been inconsistent.

Enter Star Wars Battlefront a shooter based on the struggles of the unsung heroes and villains of the main canon. The Rebel Soldiers, the Storm Troopers, the Clone Army, and the CIS, they were out on the front lines shaping the fate of the galaxy just as much as Luke and Lord Vader. What's really cool is what a great game it makes.

This is probably my favorite shooter of all time. The historical campaigns are a fun way to play through the maps while getting a greater sense of what was happening behind the scenes during Luke's epic journey, the only complaint is that the difficulty gets pretty unbalanced toward the end of these campaigns and it seems that rather than make enemies more effective the game instead makes your fellow soldiers ridiculously incompetent. I once lost a battle in which I had 80 kills, not one of my teammates had more kills than deaths. That was on Hard difficulty mind you, but it made me feel as though I had no control over the outcome of the battle. But hey, I still love this game.

The galactic conquests are also great, single player is fun, but it is even better with a friend. You take over the galaxy one planet at a time, gaining bonuses along the way, the best by far being the Jedi bonus, which in the Civil War era (haven't played near as much Clone Wars) gives you Luke or Vader, they will generally give you a solid 30 kills in each battle.

The game also has an instant action mode in which you just line up a bunch of maps and go, this is a great way to play split screen or just have a few practice rounds. This is a game that is great on it's own and only gets better with a friend, I would recommend it unreservedly to any fan of Star Wars or just video games. It's a bargain title, you can't go wrong.
