Worth a rental. Killed by lack of multiplayer.
The Good Stuff. First, it's Battlefront! The gameplay is great, a lot like the Battlefield series, but Star Wars (woot!). Two teams duke it out over a variety of "Command Points". There are a number of units for each army (CIS, Republic, Empire, and Rebel Alliance), with your standard soldier, sniper, rocket launcher, plus 2 unique units. Each side is balanced well. There are also space battles, but unfortunately, they are executed poorly.
Which brings us to the bad. The console version's big draw is the large scale of the battles. for some reason though, the PSP version sports a smaller number of reinforcements, which makes battles pass quicker. This takes a bit of the fun out of it.
The controls take a bit to get used to. They are not horrible, but aiming with the D-pad makes the sniper virtually useless, and the aim-assist (strong enough to be auto-aim) saves the aiming from being a complete disaster. The graphics are decent for PSP, especially when you consdier the amount of stuff happenning on the screen at once. The major problem I had with the graphics was the draw distance. The draw distance cripples snipers, and makes space battles boring and uninteresting. Lastly, the game lacks online multiplayer! That's what made the console versions so good! Now, you are stuck with the sometimes brain-dead AI (especially in space battles). This kills the replay value.
In conclusion, Battlefront 2 for PSP is a game that could have been so much more than it is. There's no reason to get this version over the console versions, and unless you are a huge Battlefron/Star Wars fan, there's not many reasons to give this game more than a rental.
