Star Wars the Phantom Menace is a completely underacppreciated game that will keep you sucked in from start to finish.
-Has the same great story from the movie, but adds loads of bonus free-roaming environments to visit
-Bonus objectives provide nice optional challenges
-Loads of weapons to toy around with
-It's very fun on Mos Eisley when you just go around destroying everything
-Solid Voice acting and acceptable music
-Will take a while and isn't too easy
-Quite a few playable characters
The Bad:
-Multiplayer mode would have been nice
-Graphics aren't special
-A wee bit hard
So, if you were wondering if the guy who reviewed this game is right- then you are WRONG. Even though the graphical work in this game based on the First Star wars movie is not all that special, Phantom Menace for the PS proves to be a completely enjoyable experience for Star Wars fans everywhere. You can play as Obi Wan, Qui Gon, Padme Amidala and Padme's bodyguard in 11 different levels based on the movie's events.
If you're not familiar with the story, I'll summarize it for you. Obi Wan and Qui Gon, two jedi knights, have been sent to the trade fedaration ship to deal with Nute Gunray, one of the seperatist leaders. He has set up a blockade(which is illegal), and is ready to attack Naboo, the homeworld of Padme Amidala and Jar Jar Binks.
You start the game in the Trade Federation ship, and you have to find a way out, attacking the droids and trying not to get killed, but, the first level should be a breeze and is not that hard.
Through the rest of the game, you go to Naboo Swamps, Otoh Gunga, Gardens of Theed, Theed Palace, Tatoooine, Mos Eisley, Mos Espa Arena, Coruscant, Retake Theed Palace, and the Final Battle.
The 10 levels that proceed Level 1 can be a bit tricky, and you'll probably have to use the cheats the first time through.
The control scheme is great, and is just what is expected from this kind of game, and this, and the good sound and music, make up for the not-so-special graphics.
There are a lot of different side missions to play, which are a great addition to the action and puzzle-filled game you'll already be having with The Phantom Menace. You'll give a soldier water, save a little alien boy from a huge hairy beast, and meet with Jabba the Hutt, as well as setting up a podrace, saving the Queen, and defeating Darth Maul on the last level.
Aside from the bad graphics and large difficulty level, Star Wars The Phantom Menace is great fun, especially on the Mos Eisley level.
Overall, 9.5/10
