You honestly cannot expect much from a game that is adapted from a movie, and to make matters worse, In Star Wars III: Revenge Of The Sith, all you do is perhaps: hack it, slash it, and then forget it. Since it’s an adaptation from the movie, the story line pretty much relates to the movie. You would figure that if the game follows EXACTLY the story, it would be great; the developers have however, decided to cut a major chunk of the story, and you would be cursing when you find that the main female lead (Natalie Portman) has been erased from the game. One would question such drastic change to the story, as most of you who have watched the show understands the important role of Queen Amidala (Natalie) in making the great villain, Darth Vader. Her part in the story is essential, and thus without her, the story in the game becomes interrupted and boring. Major cut scenes were taken from the movie but they are all over-edited and give a sense of interruption; it feels as if you are watching a great movie with a lot of commercials in between, what a mess. The game basically puts you in control of either Obi-Wan or Anakin. Different missions will give you control over the respective characters, and in some missions they will fight side-by-side. The good thing about this game is that it fills the loop holes in terms of story of the movie, and many deleted scenes from the movie are re-lived through this game. Take for example the fight between General Grievous and Obi-Wan, it’s lengthier in the game (Divided into 3 small fights) and there are certain droids which were originally meant for the movie but then got deleted, then of course we have all the bonus arts that you unlock after finishing the missions. Also worth mentioning is the “level-up” system where you gain experience points by killing enemies in style, and in turn use those points to level up the light saber attacks, the force powers etc. You chain up the light saber attacks by pressing the right buttons, and your moves will be rated as: “Fair”, “impressive”, “Good” or even “Masterful”, the more stylish your moves are, the higher experience points you will earn. There are a total of 17 missions in this game, and most of them are repetitive, with repeated backgrounds, and repeated mission objectives such as de-activate the force-fields(I have at least de-activated 10 force fields in a particular mission), there are some missions that could prove to be interesting, one in particular is the fight with Grievous and the final fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan, these does not improve the overall rating of this game however, because after a 4 or 5 hour play, you would have figured out all the moves and a fast player would have finished this game in less than 4 hours. There is heavy emphasis on light saber action and occasionally you will fire turrets at enemies. Replay-ability is lacking, but the “Versus” mode where you choose a character and fight against a CPU character (or even head-to-head with a human opponent) salvages the game’s reputation to a little extent. Star Wars fans would be delighted to learn that Darth Vader can be unlocked at the end of the game, and you can actually select him to fight in a VS competition. Certain fresh characters that were not seen in the movie such as the Jedi tutor and his lady student are interesting additions to the game. Voice acting is absolutely horrible; Anakin sounds like he is having flu, and Obi-Wan sounds too cool when swarms of droids are heading towards him. Yoda sounds like an electronic voice box. These are perhaps due to the fact that the voice-overs are not done by the original actors. Character scripts are also repetitive. Luckily, Darth Vader does sound like himself. In short, serious gamers would likely ignore this game, as it all sums up to a mediocre gaming material that is overloaded with repetitive, senseless action. Star Wars fans however, would love the deleted scenes and new characters in this game. If you are a Star Wars fan, then go get this, otherwise you might want to get another game.
