The New Game Enhancement (simultaneously released with the SWG: Starter Kit) appears to have some very fundemental flaws. The new combat system is what it is: new. As a result it feels very unpolished and suffers from fundemental flaws. Enemies being able to agro you from out of range, continuing to attack out of range, firing through walls and floors from different levels and a number of broken quests are a few that come to mind in my experience with SWG thus far. It makes you feel as if this is a beta test; a beta test that SOE is making a direct profit from in the form of the $20 purchase price and the subsequent monthly fee (should the customer subscribe).
Lastly, the SWG engine is not getting any younger. Before the NGE, it served its purpose well. But after this latest major update, the dated graphics (although not bad) coupled with this partially realized combat system and UI makes for a terrible gaming experience. We will see in the months to come if any of these are resolved. The question is if there will be anyone on the servers to appreciate it.
2.7 for my two cents.
(I won't even go into my rant regarding the paying, loyal customers who were disgruntled by the NGE.)
