Not as bad as you'd be led to believe

User Rating: 7.8 | Star Wars Galaxies: Starter Kit PC
It's true that the NGE (New Game Experience) that got pushed on the game in November was a drastic change from the SWG we all knew. However, think about this... SWG, by it's own records, has sold more than a million copies. It also, by it's own admission, has had a subscriber base of 300,000. That means that over the two and a half years SWG has been in operation, it has had something like a 30% to 35% customer retention rate.

A lot of us got used to and liked how SWG played, be it pre-CU or post-CU.

Now we have something different, but how different is it?
Well, you click more.

Ok, what else? You pick a profession instead of mixing and matching skill trees.

Ok, that's a change. What else?
They got rid of creature handlers.

Anything else?
They simplified the game's dynamics and made things not decay. They also added quests to do, including the new station.

Is that it?
Yup. That's it. For everything else, it's the same game. You may have to point and click, but it's still SWG. Everyone else can rant and rave as much as they want about how it's the end of the world, but the simple fact is that SWG will live and end up being the same game. It just is a little faster with combat that may or may not be more like Star Wars. Less professions, while against what SWG started as, means that the changes of getting everything balanced is much greater.

Give it a shot. Get the 10 day trial if you think it sounds interesting, and ignore the vets that are spamming with this page with a 1.0 rating. Yes, sony online did some major changes and it did hurt us, but SWG is by no means a 1.0. It's not perfect, but it's certainly not the worst.
