Quite unfortunate. Don't let the new "Star Warsy" feeling lull you into it.

User Rating: 2.8 | Star Wars Galaxies: Starter Kit PC
This isn't the original Star Wars Galaxies where you could "Experience the greatest Star Wars saga ever told -- yours." No this is where you are brought in to experience the exact same saga as everyone else, or at least everyone else in the game. No longer is there a dramatic and personal series of decisions made to pick up the skills that interest you and make your character entirely unique, now you get exactly the same skills as everyone else, pretty much regardless of what iconic profession you choose. One attack does damage, one heals, one for defense, and that's about it. Don't let them tell you that the turns have been taken out, it's still who fires first wins. All the weapons are about the same effectiveness, all the armor is the same, some is just uglier than others.

With lush textures and beautiful planetscapes, detailed and very sexy characters for guys and girls to oogle, and some very Star Wars sounds included, this game looks and sounds fabulous, but this is little consolation to the unfortunate gameplay, the user interface that covers the beautiful visuals, and the severe lack of balance testing that makes the game very unrewarding to play at even higher levels.

The opportunities you have in the game now are about following a predetermined series of quests that likely don't have anything to do with your character or how you want to develop him/her. At it's best it's become an interactive book, but with less imagination or creativity involved. At it's worst it's a waste of time and money with frustration and dissappointment lurking around every corner. The game was far far better at launch than it is today, and I consider myself lucky to have had 2 years of enjoyment with it, but anyone picking up the title now may consider themselves lucky to have 2 weeks enjoyment with it.
