Jedi academy is a very similar game to Jedi outcast except with more weapons, location, force powers etc. The areas where Jedi academy improved over its Jedi outcast are: the new options for creating your own star wars character from aliens to humans and the light-saber options are also flexible. As the game progresses you will discover more options in the light-saber. The combat is still solid and great with added fighting moves for single blade and new moves for the double-bladed and two-bladed light-saber. The combat keeps the action moving. The new force powers are well designed and all of them are stellar and excel in their own way. Force powers play an important role in the game. There are plenty of starwars locations to explore including classic locations and some new locations. Each location has its own special tasks and they don't get repetitive. The major improvement over Jedi outcast is the multi-player. Plenty of modes, characters and flexible online and offline set-up options.

On the downside, the graphics are hardly improved and it would have been nice if the developers put more work on it. The unique level selection system allows you to choose what missions you want to do in order. This is a old style mission selection system and developer shouldn't have introduced it because it practically brings the whole game down. The title of the game doesn't actually suit the game because you are hardly in the academy. Most of the time you are in outer planets. The story-line is weak and the main boss of the game is tavion. In fact Jedi academy has the weakest story line out of the whole Jedi-knight series. The weapons are still useless apart the light-saber. The game doesn't make a good use of weapons. The gameplay is somewhat repetitive and the controls are awkward.

Jedi academy still offers a solid star-wars experiences the new multi-player brings hours of fun once you are finished with the single missions.
