A very good game for fans of the Star Wars series, Set between Episode V and VI. This game also had comics based on it.
CONTROLS - There are many different choices for the controls which can be changed during the game and on the main menu. During two flying levels (Battle of Hoth, and the second part of Skyhook Battle) you can change if you want the flying to be inverted in the y axis (so when "Inverted Flying (or something like that)" appears in front of the controller on the options, it means that moving the analog forward makes you fly down instead of up and vice versa. You can also change the camera angle which is very interesting - from a touch of a button, you can change between Standard Third Person, First Person, Cinema View (A picture of a cinema camera will show up) and Top Down.
GAMEPLAY - You'll encounter stormtroopers, droids, etc, and even wampas! On the end of most levels there are bosses; most of them can be confusing at first (like the Sewer Boss). There are also these items called Challenge points which unlock features when you beat the game on a certain difficulty with them (They look like spinning silver rogue squadron logos).
The cutscenes are similar to reading a comic, the way that there's a picture of what's going on in a letterbox fashion with text of what the characters are saying on the bottom.
Dash's Blaster also has different weapons which all except laser need to be found:
Laser - Shoots a red / orange laser beam, has unlimited ammo, but also has to recharge for it to do it's maximum amount of damage.
Flamethrower - Damages targets quite quickly but only effective at close range since the flamethrower's projectiles goes out after a second.
Pulse Cannon - Similar to the flamethrower but sprays magenta pulse spheres,
Seeker - Shoots a heat-seeking rocket at a target, there's also an option for if you want the camera to follow the seeker!
Stunner - Freezes enemies for a view seconds.
Disruptor - Shoots a green sphere which when it hits a wall or a target it expands and creates like a mini nuke, be careful though because this weapon can take some health off you if you get caught in it.
GRAPHICS - The textures are nice and smooth, and not pixelated. The models' polygons are not too badly noticeable, The menus are nicely done. But the cutscenes have the best quality out of the whole game.
SOUND / MUSIC - The sounds are used correctly and have perfect quality, most of the music is from the star wars soundtrack - like on Ord Mantell Junkyard, music from Empire Strikes Back starts playing from the part when Lando saves Luke, and then TIE Fighters start chasing the falcon. The music can also be very ambient, like on the sewer level, I remember when I was young, i was too afraid to move past the first room!
LEVELS - Levels are properly designed; they look like they were made with a lot of effort, and not like they couldn't be bothered. Some levels leave you having to plan strategies on what to do before running in and shooting everywhere. There's two types of levels, there's flying levels which you fly a spaceship and have to destroy TIE Fighters, etc and there's land levels, which is the opposite, but you have to get to the end of the level and defeat stormtroopers or even a boss.
DIFFICULTY - There are four difficulties:
Easy - Recommended for newcomers.
You start the game with 5 lives, you can take lots of damage compared to Hard and Jedi, Weapon ammo boxes give you quite a lot of ammo and stormtroopers take about 1-3 hits. Bosses aren't really that hard, but can still kill you fairly easily.
Medium - Recommended for people who beat easy from start to finish at least twice.
You start the game with 4 lives, you can take slightly less damage compared than Easy, Weapon ammo boxes give you the same amount as on easy, and stormtroopers take about 2-4 hits. Bosses do a little more damage.
Hard - Probably for pros
You start the game with 3 lives, you can take about the same amount of damage as Medium. Weapon ammo boxes give you much less than they did than on easy and medium, Stormtroopers and other enemies take a lot of hits about 6-12 hits! Bosses can kill you easily.
Jedi - Probably the hardest and maybe the most realistic -
You start the game with 2 or 3 lives, you can only take about 3 or 4 hits before you die. Weapon ammo boxes give you same amount as Hard, Stormtroopers only 1 or 2 hits? Bosses can kill you VERY easily.
Well, That's the end of my review. Anyway, It is a good game for those who love star wars and want something old-school, The game and the controls can be quite confusing at first, but you'll get used to the controls after around 2-5 minutes playing it.
