FU:2 - Just what I want to tell the creators of this game... Coincidence?

User Rating: 5.5 | Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II X360
FU:1 was a fun game in it's own right... a nice blend of action, cool force powers, length and a compelling storyline that masked all of the flaws that the game presented. This sequel completely ignores what made the first game great and I can only conclude that the aggressive marketing and recycling of the IP name is just a way for Lucasarts to milk us gamers out of our money for this uninspired game.

First off, the good:

- Graphics are really, really sharp. The artwork team did a good job of creating environments, character models and effects. The game looks pretty, that's for sure.

- Force powers are still fun. I still got a kick out of bolting Stromtroopers and sabering down enemies.

- Cut scenes where you need to flee from (insert big threat here) are short but entertaining.

Now, the bad:

- The action is repetitive. Pay attention to the enemies on the first stage. Know why? Because you'll be fighting them ALL GAME. There is literally no variety to the enemies, and if there is, it's so superficial that it doesn't really matter.

- The story is short, hackneyed and shallow. I beat the game in less than 5 hours. Pretty short for a steep price tag. Couple that with a story that doesn't even live up to a tenth of the original: Clone has memories, clone chases them and a girl he never met yet is somehow so in love with he will risk his life dozens of times for her? I don't buy it. The story and the length really kill it for me. If they were longer and better thought out, this game would probably be somewhere up near an 8 on 10 for me.

- The force power tree is pared down. The first game had a lot more control over skills and upgrade choices. Here you are given 6 or 7 choices to put your exp into. Since when did a LACK of customization make a game better?

Overall, this game isn't terrible. The reason why it gets such a low rating from me is because I am disappointed by the end product after anticipating a similar experience to the first FU. This is clearly a cash grab trying to profit from the success of the last iteration of this IP.

Go out and get this game when it is in a bargain bin in the store. Not worth full price, by any means, but will still give you a few hours of fun if you're looking for some mindless fun.
