Thrilling force-filled adventure
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was definitely worth the wait and is a definite recommendation for all Star Wars fans, or anyone who simply likes using the force.
You will play as Starkiller, Darth Vader's merciless apprentice. Although you start off as Darth Vader yourself on the wookie planet, Kashyyyk. Starkiller is sent to do Darth Vader's bidding, however Darth Sidious disagrees with this and Darth Vader attempts to kill Starkiller. The plot is built around this, but it is more the gameplay that makes it a great game.
You will only get a lightsaber to use in this game, so there isn't much variety. However you will collect different coloured saber crystals as the game goes on. You can use both the force and sith lightning to defeat your enemies. Most of the time you are destroying your own men, Stormtroopers. This fits into a very detailed plot. The best thing about the game is Starkillers ability to control other's bodies, i.e the force. The force has been used to swing enemies from one spot to the other in many Star Wars games, but none so amazing as this. Once you use the force on any object or person, you will then have complete control of the person, swinging them left to right or any preferred direction. You can also use the force to throw objects such as giant boulders at enemies, this is extremely useful for taking out large numbers at a time. Another additional feature is the ability to throw your lightsaber which is also very enjoyable to do.
Another thing they added was the cutscenes that appear while fighting bosses. God of War was the first game to perfect it, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the second. However one problem is in an actual cutscene it would look amazing, but most of the time you are concentrating on what button is going to show up. Nevertheless it looks amazing and is definitely a fine addition to this game.
Unfortunately there are a few problems that would prevent this game getting even higher than a nine. One of them is the jumping, the double jump is very stiff and you can't control where to jump very well, you often end up in places you don't want to land. Also there are a few problems with the boss fights, I find them very repetitive and boring. They not only go for too long but they use the same attacking style throughout the fight, you will also find you will fight the same boss two or three times through out the game. The most significant problem is the camera controls, they are quite poor and will often lead up to very frustrating deaths. There will always be problems with games, but these definitely denied this game getting higher than an 8.5.
I rate this game a 8.5
