Best RTS ever made!
The graphics are wonderful. You can se all the units well even if some of them are small. The detail dosn't have to be better than it is considering the genre of the game. It's a big plus for me that the game dosn't require to much power from a graphics card.
The music is suitable and gives that good gaming feeling. Even if I've played this game so extremely much I still don't get bored by the music when I choose to have it on.
The control of the units are extremely good. You can add them up in different groups and control them easier in sticky situations.
There are many types of units. What units to use is a very tactical choice since they harm each other with different types of damage – doing a different amount of damage depending on the target. There are also many different types of special abilities. These are distributed equally to the three species – which is a hard thing to balance in a RTS.
The "money" that you use to build buildings and buy units from is both minerals and gas. In the multiplayer mode it is often a matter of having the most expansions (where you mine more minerals and gas) up and running to make even more units to send out to war. In the singleplayer mode there are several maps when money isn't such a big matter.
But lets not forget the campaign editor. Wich is the best game editor Iv'e ever seen. It's logical and you can make really complicated maps with the help of "triggers". In that way you can make and play a lot of different types of game modes like "capture the flag" and such. Many hours I've spent in front of the map "Zergling blood" – a map that dosn't have any special use of minerals or gas.
Starcraft: Broodwar may first and foremost be a multiplayer game, but I think it's has a very well produced singleplayer mode also. The singleplayer storyline is intense. You get to lead and follow different characters throughout a long and bumpy road. You get different roles depending on wich campaign you choose (there's on for each species in the original game and one additional for each species in this expansion). The movies are fun to watch along the storyline.
But, as I mentioned, this game does most of it's wonders in multiplayer mode. To play 1 on 1 on this game can be totally awesome. There are so much choices to make and so many strategies to use. You have to keep an eye on your opponent to se what can break him down the most. You can trick him or try to sneak out to make a expansion without him knowing.
Im sure there's more to tell about this totally marvelous game. Why don't you try it and find out?
