".........Damn!"
User Rating: 8.8 | Steel Battalion XBOX
Steel Battalion, is a game that, only really dedicated gamers would really want to play. This game's 200$ price tag, that includes the massive 40-button controller, and the game itself. The game is great and is worth every penny, whether it be by gameplay, sound, graphics, and etc. When starting the game, reading the manual, then looking at the controller, it will leave you saying "damn!". As I review by category. First let's start with graphics shall we? The visuals are tremendously great. When playing, when the mech starts up it's just giving you the feel that, you ARE piloting this thing. The game requires you to be at your feet for reaction, whether it be for movement, putting out fires on your mech, or the ejection button. The game almost traps you inside a box, making you feel like you are there. For example, as you movement [ever so slowly] it gives you the feel that, this is a big, heavy robot. Movement is hard enough. You have 3 petals, one for strafing, gas and brake. Also you must shift as if a car for the mech to continue its motion. Crazy. The action part is great, though it is a bit difficult. Sure I've been shot down plenty of times but thats where practice comes in! This game requires you to play it over and over until you could pilot the mech if it was real. The graphics are extremely good. I love them. Sometimes you may catch yourself staring at the environment, in awe. The environment is fully destructible, damage effects are realistic. I love the gun movements! Especially when reloading, you can tell that this gun needs more ammo just by how it reloads. Also when shooting a certain rocket, the casing breaks off when in mid-air. Also even the mechs leave footprints telling you that, these robots are big...and I mean big. Lighting/shadowing effects are good, and the enviroments are well detailed. It's hard to tell whether the graphics are pre-rendered or not. But who cares! As long as it has good graphics I don't mind! The sound is amazing as well. The sound of gears and the mech starting up makes it feel like you are even more there then you were experiencing the graphics! The guns and such and the battling warfare send the mood that you are on a battlefield and must kick some mech butt. The starting of the mech is the best part, it's so detailed I can't type it here. Anyway, the sound in this game is perfect and matches everything it should. The value of this game ....200$....lot of money....you see where I am going? Sure it's worth every penny, but not everyone has that kind of money or is willing to pay 200$ for a single game, and a neato controller. But if you have the money and are willing to pay for it, hell, buy the game then I encourage you. Though if you don't like mech games then I advise you to play it anyway! This game will change your mind! So in conclusion, Steel Battalion is one of it's kind, and very rare to find. Though this is the best simulator of anything I've played so far. Steel Battalion, will literally crush mech-assault, armored core, or any other mech game available.
