Steins;Gate is not just a good anime but it's also a very nice visual novel. Everything you liked about the anime is in the visual novel. That lab, those characters, and the time traveling theme. The visual novel explains some things which were not explained in the anime. For example, it tells you that there are no parallel worlds. Instead, there is one active timeline and others are inactive. The anime also altered one particular moment and it turned out not that good. It's better to see how original authors intended this masterpiece to look like.
If you liked the anime adaptation, you may consider reading the original visual novel. Huke's drawings are pretty nice. The music is superb. And the atmosphere is outstanding.
