not bad.

User Rating: 7.7 | Stella Deus PS2
Last year, Atlus released a game called Stella Deus: The Gate of Eternity for the Sony Playstation 2. This Action-RPG takes the player into a world where alchemy is supposedly the solution to everything, including saving the world from a spreading virus called "Miasma". The game follows the character Spero, who started out as a soldier for a group of alchemists, and his two friends and fellow soldiers, Adara and Grey. As the player progresses through the game, more allies are obtained to help in battles later on. Much of the game consists of reading/listening to story, which could get repetitive and/or obnoxious.
The gameplay of Stella Deus is much of a sneeze and a breeze. Battles play in a tactics way using a grid system and an AP system, much like the Fallout series. A flaw in the gameplay is the unnecessary animations that tend to get repetitive after using a character for about one battle. Aside from that small flaw, the gameplay is well executed.
A big turn off in the game was the corny voice-acting of the characters. Taking the main character, Spero, as an example, he has similar expressions and passion in his voice for every feeling and emotion. It would've done the game more justice if it had the option of having the voices in Japanese.

An overview of Stella Deus:
It is a really great Action-RPG/Tactics RPG, especially for fans of past Atlus games. This game wouldn't serve well as a first-time Tactics RPG for anyone, for it is WAY too difficult, and constantly losing battles would get on people's nerves. If you are into RPGs, this game is highly recommended for you to at least try it or take a look at it. If you're not that into RPGs, don't bother. If you want to or have just started to get into RPGs, I say start with something else less challenging and less frustrating.
