Streets of Fire
As usual with a fighting game it has a comic book plot where the city is in peril by the uncontrolable crime problem all conducted by crimelord Mister X that rules the city with an iron fist. So it's up to a sole crime fighting force consisting of three characters to stop it.
What I love about this game are a few things. From unique characters all with different styles of fighting, strengths and weeknesses. I personally love playing as Axel since he's a bit more balanced, sometimes Blaze.
Graphic detail which really looks good even by today's standards. All the usual joys of a beat em um from a colorful varity of baddies, weapons, and great hit detection and sound. Enough level for once to satisfy any player as well as a moderate pace so you won't find a dull moment.
However the best thing for me about this game is the music it's just catchy and fun to listen to. It's so good that there have been remixs of these beats from the first game (as well as 2 and 3).
Though I'll admit I didn't give this game a 9.5 because there are a few aspects of the first game that date it a bit. From the fact the arena you fight in doesn't change much like in the sequels, the combo system don't get me wrong is good but a bit shallow I just felt there could of been one or two more moves with the charcters we could've utilized, and that super power move which is actually calling for backup where a cop car would come and shoot a bazoka round leaving a semicircle fire trail which will take out all of the baddies when things get too hot is a dated cleche thats been in tons of beat em up most of all shooters.
It's true that the sequels 2 and 3 are clearly better and we're really what brought the series to be the beloved video game classic it is today. But still all the same as the saying goes we all got to start somewhere and this game was a pritty good start, the first one I still enjoy and is a classic that has actually aged fairly well. So, if you want to see where the whole series started, or are even new to the genere this is a good place to start.
