The sequel to Streets of Rage 2 is now on the virtual console; is it as bad as its predecessor or is it perhaps better?

Story: Seriously the story is still a bore. Same old story, you and a bunch of people fight other people to meet the big boss of the people you fought. Save the city, whoopdeedoo. Yeah alright whatever. This has been done TOO many times. Bad story gets a bad rating.

Gameplay: There has been a HUGE drastic change in combat from Streets of Rage to Streets of Rage 2. The fighting is actually fun. No more of the same boring and repetitive attacks. No more of the dull police car specials. No more of the same old boring gameplay. I actually enjoyed killing hordes of people, honestly I did, unlike in the last game. I finally found my side scrolling beat'em up game. 4 out of 5
Graphics: Well done graphics compared to the last game. The images are smooth, and nice to look at, well for a Sega Genesis game anyway. The characters are enlarged, the environments have been redesigned, everything looks pretty schweet, well for a Sega Genesis game anyway.

Sound: The sound effects of the characters, and destructible objects were average. Could have gave this category a 3 but, and its a HUGE but. The music in the game was actually catchy. Yes I was creeped out too, I wasn't expecting Streets of Rage 2 to have a well done soundtrack. Honestly I didn't. Overall: Streets of Rage 2 is a great game. Way better then the first one thankfully. The only BIG problem with the game was that the story was poorly told. A game can't stand alone by having good gameplay, graphics, and sound. It also need a good story plot. In which this game was lacking. Other than that Streets of Rage 2 is most likely the best side scrolling beat'em up game you can find right now on your virtual console. Do yourself a favor and download it.
