A different kind of mark in the video game industry
This game will give you good memories. One of its most lovable qualities lies in its lighthearted attitude and tendency to not take itself too seriously. This is a hilarious piece of work, not what you’d expect from a zombie game, but note that this is not your average zombie game. You control Stubbs, a proud member of the undead, doing what you do best: eating brains! Along with other skills, like throwing your exploding, grenade-like pancreas, severing your head to bowl at people, ripping off your hand to run around in a creepy, Adams family ‘Thing’-like fashion and of course, farting toxic gas.
All the aforementioned skills are the attacks at your disposal to combat the un-undead race. The main aim is basically to get from point A to B. Pretty linear, yes, BUT the interesting thing is: you’re a zombie! In order to get from A to B, you’re going to have to eat some brains… And what’s cool is that the people you eat join your little gang of hungry zombies. It kind of gives you a cool gang leader,-mob mentality sort of feel. This in itself is quite satisfying and a lot of fun.
This is a funny, funny game, Stubbs is just hilarious. He’s funny because he just doesn’t talk, he communicates by a series of low pitched grunts. Even though he may be a mindless, brain-eating zombie, he has a heart of gold and you gotta love him.
That being said, this game probably wasn’t intended to be taken completely seriously. It isn’t long or in depth or rich in content, but it is different, hilarious and just plain fun. It probably won’t be long before you’ve completed the game and saw just about everything there is to see, but provided that either you a) rented it, or b) bought it really cheap, then you’ll leave feeling pretty satisfied.
It’s a rare occurrence that games take this light-hearted angle but when it does, it’s totally welcome. It’s not astounding or ground-breaking or anything like that, but you will look back at it, laugh, and remember the good times you had. I also fully recommend playing it through with a friend. That always makes the experience so much more fun.
