Suikoden 1: 9 out of 10

User Rating: 9 | Genso Suikoden (PlayStation the Best) PS
I base my review on games on five different aspects: graphics, sound, gameplay, storyline, and misc (the little details like mini games or special extras/details)

Graphics: The graphics of suikoden were pretty good when the game first hit the market espically for being one of the early PS games. One of the most memoriable things about the game is the movement of the character on the semi 3D maps, this is one of the first games that didn't use simple sprites. Even by todays standards this games graphics are that bad, just classic. 2 out of 2

Sound: The sound of the suikoden game was amazing, you could tell that special attention was put into making the game's musical tracks. Although it's really nothing special by todays standards but if you play the game you'll probably find yourself humming along with the music by the time you finish. 2 out of 2

Gameplay: The gameplay of suikoden is really nothing special but that's ok "If it ain't broke don't fix it". One of the highlights of the game is it's battle system and castle system. The battle system, unlike most other RPGs of it's day, used a party of six instead of four. The castle system is also unique to the suikoden series, as you progress thought the game you'll be able to collect an army of 108 characters and as you collected more followers your castle base would improve this helped set up the felling of a large scale war in the storyline. Instead of a group of traveling heros you had small regiments of an army like a scouting party or something. 2 out of 2

Storyline: The storyline of suikoden is very very well done, it's based on eastern folk lore about the 108 stars of destiny. It's starts with a simple city boy who's destiny is change when he gets a powerful rune called the "Soul Eater" He becomes the leader of the revolution army who is fighting against the corrupt Scarlet Moon Empire. When compared to other RPGs this is nothing special but the one thing this game did very well is setting up the scale of this war between the revolution amry and the empire army. 2 out of 2

Misc: This game unfortunately didn't really have too many minigames. However it did have several sidestorys you could follow and it gave details about the people who join your army which made the characters more memorable. 1 out of 2

Overall: This game is a great game. It has good graphics and sound. A great storyline and good gameplay. It might not take a dedicated player more then a couple days to beat but with multiple endings it does have replay value. I give Suikoden a 9 out of 10.
