Great mechanics, poor design choices.

User Rating: 7 | Sundered: Eldritch Edition XONE

Sundered has strong gameplay mechanics. There are a lot of diffferent abilities, options, skill tree and the combat is generally very responsive. However, the level and enemy mechanics are less than desirable. Enemies can spawn from any direction and they can spawn infinitely. The levels are partially procedural so while the main structure is static the insides of the layout are procedurally generated. In addition to the forever spawning enemies there are specific enemies that can attack from off screen while combating enemies that are in view. Some of these offscreen enemies can be particularly distant from your location. This makes combat even more stressful. There are some areas that have infinite spawning enemies, offscreen attacking enemies, wind pushing the player and mushroms that spread a damage over time in a massive area over time. This game is not for the traditional sidescrolling adventure gamer because of the design choices. It maybe worth it for some.
