What can you say about Mario 64 other than "classic." It was released ten years ago and at that time was the most graphically advanced game on the market. 3-D had never looked so good and it just blew gamers away. Gone were the days of 2-D Mario and his cronie Luigi bouncing up and down in the same predictable fashion. Gone were the simple, yet surprisingly entertaining, fireballs of old. Now Mario had a whole host of new moves to dazzle his audience with. He could run, dive, flip, cartwheel, spin, fly and so much more. And as if that wasn't enough, he had a vast, beautifully rendered, 3-D environment in which he could roam to his little hearts delight. Gamers fought and struggled to defeat the opposition, save the Princess...again, and of course collect all 120 stars. This game was nothing short of revolutionary for the N64 and the gaming industry in general. It set the bar at a level which all others now strived to achieve. And to put it simply the game was just pure fun. Mario 64 will go down in the video game hall of fame if they ever get around to creating one. Anyone who missed it truly missed out on one of the greatest games of all time. For its time it was a perfect ten.
