Super Mario All-Stars (Super Nintendo) IS MY FAVORITE GAME OF ALL-TIME!
Okay, you'll notice in the forums I have been OPPOSING a Final Fantasy VII remake but, fully endorse this enhanced remake of all the Super Mario games. I'll tell you the enhanced remake of these games do not hinder them it just makes them better. Maybe I'm just afraid of change but, in this case I really had no doubts.
So, you may be wondering what is different. ALOT. I'll give a few key differences for each game:
Super Mario Bros:
-Players no longer need to A while pressing Start to continue, because they can now continue from a saved game.
-In levels that have a nighttime sky, there are now colorful twinkling stars.
-New background music plays during the encounters with Bowser, and another new song is played during the Final Bowser Battle.
-Level introduction now include a preview of the level that allows you to see where the level will take place (outside, underground, etc.) and which enemies will be encountered.
Super Mario Bros 2:
-Level introductions now feature a colorized and animated level representation.
-The slot machine bonus game has been enhanced, including enlarged slots and icons, and a new "7" icon.
there are other changes as well but, out of all the games this one was given the most enhancement.
Super Mario Bros 3:
-The airships at the end of each world as well as the Koopa Speed Ship stage in World 8 now have thunder/lightning effects.
-The scoreboard at the bottom of the screen is now full-color
-The action scenes, spade panels, and other world map elements have been animated.
-The king's original animal forms were replaced with monsters from other various Mario games such as Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario World; for instance, the king in World 7 is now transformed into a Yoshi instead of a Piranha Plant, as he was in the Famicom/NES version, which pre-dates the Shigefumi Hino created Yoshi (coincidentially, the Yoshi in this version looks very similar to the Yoshis in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.)
-The ending music is slightly slower than the NES version.
When I say I have spent more than 100 hours with this game it is no lie. Here I am playing enhanced versions of some of the greatest games ever made. I'd say out of all remakes THIS is the one to get. If you want a definition of TIMELESS if you can happen to find a copy or play it on the Nintendo Wii you'll find that very definition with these games. Is it any wonder Nintendo is the very best?!
There was Super Mario All-Stars+Super Mario World (GASP) which was released in the U.S. and the UK but not Japan (huh?!) and I didn't get my hands on this one because it was bundle with the SNES. It was released solo but, it is now considered rare.
So, why is it my favorite game of all time? you get Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3- which, to me, represent what video games are all about. As I have said Mario has moved on to many different activities but, these games, along with Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island will be his legacy.
