A collection of the greatest Mario games.

User Rating: 8.4 | Super Mario Collection SNES
Nintendo is known by most people for one character, and one character only, a plumber by the name of Mario. He's had many games on every Nintendo system from NES to Gamecube, and he won't be stopping anytime soon. This collection of games on the Super Nintendo contains four Mario games: Super Mario Bros. 1, Super Mario Bros. - Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros - 3. All of these originated from the Nintendo Entertainment System. I'll start off with Super Mario Bros. 1, the original game, and on of the most popular games ever. This is also where the villain Bowser was formed, and we've all seen a lot of him in Mario games. This game is simpy great, but it isn't one of my favourites. Nothing more to say about this game, everybody already knows. If you haven't played this game, then you're missing out on the great beginning of Mario. Super Mario Bros. 2 and Lost Levels on the other hand, are not nearly as fascinating. They move far away from what made the original Mario great. No more stomping on enemies, now you throw plants at them. Yes, plants. I get the impression that the developers wanted to make a big change in gameplay and see what gamers thought. I was extremely disappointed. Then I got to the final game, Super Mario Bros. 3. This game can't be explained any other way than masterpiece. The fun level is always very high, and the added mini-games make for a very enjoyable experience. The easy beginning levels and the difficult final world give for a good range of difficulty. This game also brought us the great Mario invention, suits. They allowed you to fly, swim better, and what not. This is considered by many the greatest thing that the third game brought to everyone. Super Mario Bros. 3 is the greatest game in the Mario series, period. Super Mario Bros. 8.9/10 Super Mario Bros.: Lost Levels - 7.2/10 Super Mario Bros. 2 - 6.3/10 Super Mairo Bros. 3 - 9.8/10 On a graphical standpoint, they weren't improved from the NES versions, although I wouldn't consider that a bad thing. The graphics are great for the time of the game. The sound is fine, not much to be heard other than the well-known Mario music (if you haven't heard enough of it) and it's surroundings. The biggest disappointment was the lack of upgrades to gameplay. Each game plays very close to the exact same as it's NES counterpart. Nintendo decided to keep changes to a minimum, and this is both a good thing and a bad thing. The gameplay was already great, but it could've been improved on. My verdict? If you have any interest, any at all, in Mario, then get this game. If you didn't like Mario in the first place, this game definetly won't change your mind. This is a classic, from the beginning of Mario, to Super Mario Bros. 3, one of the best games in gaming history.
